이자들이 이스라엘 자손들 가운데에서 이백오십 명과 함께 모세에게 맞서 일어났다. 이들은 집회에서 뽑힌 공동체의 수장들로서 이름난 사람들이었다.

▶ two hundred and fifty Israelites who were leaders in the community, members of the council and men of note. They stood before Moses,

그들이 모세와 아론에게 몰려와서 말하였다. “당신들은 너무하오. 온 공동체가 다 거룩하고, 주님께서 그들 가운데에 계시는데, 어찌하여 당신들은 주님의 회중 위에 군림하려 하오?”

▶ and held an assembly against Moses and Aaron, to whom they said, "Enough from you! The whole community, all of them, are holy; the LORD is in their midst. Why then should you set yourselves over the LORD'S congregation?"

이 말을 듣고 모세는 얼굴을 땅에 대고 엎드렸다.

▶ When Moses heard this, he fell prostrate.

그러고 나서 코라와 그의 온 무리에게 말하였다. “내일 아침에 주님께서는 누가 당신의 사람이고, 누가 거룩하며, 누가 당신께 가까이 갈 수 있는지 알려 주실 것이다. 당신께서 선택하신 사람을 당신께 가까이 오게 하실 것이다.

▶ Then he said to Korah and to all his band, "May the LORD make known tomorrow morning who belongs to him and who is the holy one and whom he will have draw near to him! Whom he chooses, he will have draw near him.

▶ Do this: take your censers (Korah and all his band)

|
내일 주님 앞에서 향로에 불을 담고, 그 위에 향을 피워라. 그때에 주님께서 선택하시는 사람이 바로 거룩한 사람이다. 레위의 자손들아, 너희야말로 너무하구나.”

▶ and put fire in them and place incense in them before the LORD tomorrow. He whom the LORD then chooses is the holy one. Enough from you Levites!"

모세가 코라에게 말하였다. “레위의 자손들아, 제발 들어 보아라.

▶ Moses also said to Korah, "Listen to me, you Levites!
|

|
이스라엘의 하느님께서 너희를 이스라엘의 공동체 가운데에서 가려내셔서, 당신께 가까이 오게 하시어 주님 성막의 일을 맡기시고, 공동체 앞에 서서 그들을 보살피게 하셨는데, 그것으로는 모자란다는 말이냐?

▶ Is it too little for you that the God of Israel has singled you out from the community of Israel, to have you draw near him for the service of the LORD'S Dwelling and to stand before the community to minister for them?

그분께서는 너를, 그리고 너의 형제 레위인들을 모두 너와 함께 당신께 가까이 올 수 있게 해 주셨다. 그런데 이제 사제직마저 요구하는구나.

▶ He has allowed you and your kinsmen, the descendants of Levi, to approach him, and yet you now seek the priesthood too.

|
너와 너의 무리는 바로 주님을 거슬러 모여든 것이다. 아론이 누구인데 너희가 그에게 투덜댄다는 말이냐?”

|
|
|
▶ It is therefore against the LORD that you and all your band are conspiring. For what has Aaron done that you should grumble against him?"

모세는 엘리압의 아들 다탄과 아비람을 부르러 사람을 보냈다. 그러나 그들은 이렇게 말하였다. “우리는 올라가지 않겠소.

▶ Moses summoned Dathan and Abiram, sons of Eliab, but they answered, "We will not go.
|

|
우리를 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 땅에서 데리고 올라와, 이 광야에서 죽이는 것만으로는 모자라서, 이제 우리 위에서 아주 군주 노릇까지 하려 드시오?

|
|
▶ Are you not satisfied with having led us here away from a land flowing with milk and honey, to make us perish in the desert, that you must now lord it over us?
|

|
더군다나 당신은 우리를 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 땅으로 데려가지 못하였소. 그리고 밭과 포도원을 우리 소유로 주지도 못하였소. 당신은 이 사람들의 눈을 멀게 할 셈이오? 우리는 올라가지 않겠소.”

▶ Far from bringing us to a land flowing with milk and honey, or giving us fields and vineyards for our inheritance, will you also gouge out our eyes? No, we will not go."

모세는 몹시 화가 나서 주님께 아뢰었다. “저들이 바치는 제물에는 눈도 돌리지 마십시오. 저는 저들에게서 나귀 한 마리 가져오지 않았고, 저들 가운데 그 누구에게도 해를 끼치지 않았습니다.”

▶ Then Moses became very angry and said to the LORD, "Pay no heed to their offering. I have never taken a single ass from them, nor have I wronged any one of them."

모세가 코라에게 말하였다. “너와 너의 무리는 모두 내일 주님 앞으로 나오너라. 너와 그들, 그리고 아론이다.

▶ Moses said to Korah, "You and all your band shall appear before the LORD tomorrow-you and they and Aaron too.
|
|

|
저마다 자기 향로를 들고 거기에 향을 담아, 주님 앞으로 가져와야 한다. 저마다 자기 향로를 가져오면, 향로가 이백오십 개가 될 것이다. 너와 아론도 저마다 제 향로를 가져와야 한다.”

▶ Then each of your two hundred and fifty followers shall take his own censer, put incense in it, and offer it to the LORD; and you and Aaron, each with his own censer, shall do the same."

|
그리하여 그들은 저마다 향로를 들어 불을 담고 그 위에 향을 피운 다음, 모세와 아론과 함께 만남의 천막 어귀에 섰다.

▶ So they all took their censers, and laying incense on the fire they had put in them, they took their stand by the entrance of the meeting tent along with Moses and Aaron.

|
코라는 그 두 사람에게 맞서 온 공동체를 만남의 천막 어귀로 모이게 하였다. 그러자 주님의 영광이 온 공동체에게 나타났다.

▶ Then, when Korah had assembled all his band against them at the entrance of the meeting tent, the glory of the LORD appeared to the entire community,

주님께서 모세와 아론에게 이르셨다.

▶ and the LORD said to Moses and Aaron,
|
|

|
“너희는 이 공동체에게서 떨어져 서라. 내가 그들을 한순간에 없애 버리겠다.”

|
|
|
▶ "Stand apart from this band, that I may consume them at once."
|
|
22
|
그러자 그들이 얼굴을 땅에 대고 엎드려 말하였다. “하느님, 모든 육체에 영을 주시는 하느님, 죄는 한 사람이 지었는데, 온 공동체에게 격분하십니까?”

|
|
|
▶ But they fell prostrate and cried out, "O God, God of the spirits of all mankind, will one man's sin make you angry with the whole community?"

|
주님께서 모세에게 이르셨다.

▶ The LORD answered Moses,
|
|

|
“너는 이 공동체에게 코라와 다탄과 아비람의 거처 주변에서 물러서라고 일러라.”

|
|
|
|
|
▶ "Speak to the community and tell them: Withdraw from the space around the Dwelling" (of Korah, Dathan and Abiram).
|

|
모세가 일어나 다탄과 아비람에게 가자, 이스라엘의 원로들도 그 뒤를 따라갔다.

|
|
|
▶ Moses, followed by the elders of Israel, arose and went to Dathan and Abiram.
|
|

|
모세가 공동체에게 일렀다. “너희는 이 악인들의 천막을 떠나라. 그들에게 딸린 것은 아무것도 건드리지 마라. 그랬다가는 그들의 모든 죄 때문에 너희도 같이 휘말려 죽을 것이다.”

|
|
▶ Then he warned the community, "Keep away from the tents of these wicked men and do not touch anything that is theirs: otherwise you too will be swept away because of all their sins."

|
그러자 공동체는 코라와 다탄과 아비람의 거처 주변에서 물러섰다. 다탄과 아비람은 밖으로 나와, 그들의 아내와 아들과 어린것들과 함께 자기들의 천막 어귀에 섰다.

▶ When Dathan and Abiram had come out and were standing at the entrances of their tents with their wives and sons and little ones,

그때에 모세가 말하였다. “너희는 이제 일어나는 일을 보고, 이 모든 일이 주님께서 나를 보내시어 하게 하신 것이지, 내 마음대로 한 것이 아님을 알게 될 것이다.

▶ Moses said, "This is how you shall know that it was the LORD who sent me to do all I have done, and that it was not I who planned it

|
이자들이 여느 사람처럼 죽는다면, 또는 이들에게 닥칠 운명이 여느 사람의 운명과 같다면, 주님께서 나를 보내신 것이 아니다.

|
|
|
|
|
▶ if these men die an ordinary death, merely suffering the fate common to all mankind, then it was not the LORD who sent me.
|
|

|
그러나 주님께서 완전히 새로운 일을 하시어, 땅바닥이 입을 열어젖히고 이들과 이들에게 딸린 모든 것을 집어삼켜서, 이자들이 산 채로 저승에 내려가게 되면, 그때에 너희는 이 사람들이 과연 주님을 업신여겼다는 것을 알게 될 것이다.”

|
▶ But if the LORD does something entirely new, and the ground opens its mouth and swallows them alive down into the nether world, with all belonging to them, then you will know that these men have defied the LORD."

|
그가 이 모든 말을 마치자마자, 그들 발밑의 땅바닥이 갈라졌다.

|
▶ No sooner had he finished saying all this than the ground beneath them split open,
|
|

|
땅은 입을 벌려 그들과 그들 집안, 그리고 코라에게 딸린 모든 사람과 모든 재산을 삼켜 버렸다.

|
|
|
|
|
▶ and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them and their families (and all of Korah's men) and all their possessions.
|

|
그리하여 그들은 자기들에게 딸린 사람들과 함께 산 채로 저승에 내려가고, 땅은 그들을 덮어 버렸다. 이렇게 그들은 공동체 가운데에서 사라졌다.

|
▶ They went down alive to the nether world with all belonging to them; the earth closed over them, and they perished from the community.
|

|
그들의 비명 소리에 주위에 있던 이스라엘인들은 모두, “땅이 우리마저 삼킬지 모른다!” 하며 도망쳤다.

|
|
|
▶ But all the Israelites near them fled at their shrieks, saying, "The earth might swallow us too!"
|

|
그러자 주님에게서 불이 나와, 향을 바치던 이백오십 명을 삼켜 버렸다.

|
|
|
▶ So they withdrew from the space around the Dwelling (of Korah, Dathan and Abiram). And fire from the LORD came forth which consumed the two hundred and fifty men who were offering the incense.
