“모태에서 너를 빚기 전에 나는 너를 알았다. 태중에서 나오기 전에 내가 너를 성별하였다. 민족들의 예언자로 내가 너를 세웠다.”

▶ Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you, a prophet to the nations I appointed you.

내가 아뢰었다. “아, 주 하느님 저는 아이라서 말할 줄 모릅니다.”

▶ "Ah, Lord GOD!" I said, "I know not how to speak; I am too young."

주님께서 나에게 말씀하셨다. “‘저는 아이입니다.’ 하지 마라. 너는 내가 보내면 누구에게나 가야 하고 내가 명령하는 것이면 무엇이나 말해야 한다.

▶ But the LORD answered me, Say not, "I am too young." To whomever I send you, you shall go; whatever I command you, you shall speak.

▶ The word of the LORD came to me with the question: What do you see, Jeremiah? "I see a branch of the watching-tree," I replied.

그러자 주님께서 나에게 말씀하셨다. “잘 보았다. 사실 나는 내 말이 이루어지는지 지켜보고 있다.”

▶ Then the LORD said to me: Well have you seen, for I am watching to fulfill my word.

주님의 말씀이 두 번째로 나에게 내렸다. “무엇이 보이느냐?” 내가 대답하였다. “끓는 냄비가 보이는데, 그것은 북쪽에서부터 쏟아질 듯 기울어져 있습니다.”

▶ A second time the word of the LORD came to me with the question: What do you see? "I see a boiling cauldron," I replied, "that appears from the north."

그러자 주님께서 나에게 말씀하셨다. “북쪽에서 재앙이 터져 이 땅의 모든 주민 위에 덮칠 것이다.

▶ And from the north, said the LORD to me, evil will boil over upon all who dwell in the land.

이제 내가 북쪽 왕국들의 모든 족속을 불러들일 것이다. 주님의 말씀이다. 그들이 와서 저마다 제 왕좌를 예루살렘 성문 입구에 차리고, 그 주변 모든 성벽과 유다의 모든 성읍에 맞설 것이다.

▶ Lo, I am summoning all the kingdoms of the north, says the LORD; Each king shall come and set up his throne at the gateways of Jerusalem, Opposite her walls all around and opposite all the cities of Judah.

그러면 내가 그들을 거슬러, 그들이 나를 저버리고 다른 신들에게 제사를 바치며, 자기네 손으로 만든 것들을 섬긴 모든 죄악에 대하여 심판의 말을 내리겠다.

▶ I will pronounce my sentence against them for all their wickedness in forsaking me, And in burning incense to strange gods and adoring their own handiwork.

그러므로 이제 너는 허리를 동여매고 일어나, 내가 너에게 명령한 모든 것을 그들에게 말하여라. 너는 그들 앞에서 떨지 마라. 그랬다가는 내가 너를 그들 앞에서 떨게 할 것이다.

▶ But do you gird your loins; stand up and tell them all that I command you. Be not crushed on their account, as though I would leave you crushed before them;

오늘 내가 너를 요새 성읍으로, 쇠기둥과 청동 벽으로 만들어 온 땅에 맞서게 하고, 유다의 임금들과 대신들과 사제들과 나라 백성에게 맞서게 하겠다.

▶ For it is I this day who have made you a fortified city, A pillar of iron, a wall of brass, against the whole land: Against Judah's kings and princes, against its priests and people.

그들이 너와 맞서 싸우겠지만 너를 당해 내지 못할 것이다. 내가 너를 구하려고 너와 함께 있기 때문이다. 주님의 말씀이다.”
