“너희는 오늘 내가 너희에게 명령하는 모든 계명을 명심하여 실천하여라. 그러면 너희가 살 수 있고 번성할 것이다. 그리고 주님께서 너희 조상들에게 맹세하며 약속하신 땅에 들어가 그 땅을 차지할 것이다.

▶ "Be careful to observe all the commandments I enjoin on you today, that you may live and increase, and may enter in and possess the land which the LORD promised on oath to your fathers.

너희는 이 사십 년 동안 광야에서 주 너희 하느님께서 너희를 인도하신 모든 길을 기억하여라. 그것은 너희를 낮추시고, 너희가 당신의 계명을 지키는지 지키지 않는지 너희 마음속을 알아보시려고 너희를 시험하신 것이다.

▶ Remember how for forty years now the LORD, your God, has directed all your journeying in the desert, so as to test you by affliction and find out whether or not it was your intention to keep his commandments.

그분께서는 너희를 낮추시고 굶주리게 하신 다음, 너희도 모르고 너희 조상들도 몰랐던 만나를 먹게 해 주셨다. 그것은 사람이 빵만으로 살지 않고, 주님의 입에서 나오는 모든 말씀으로 산다는 것을 너희가 알게 하시려는 것이었다.

▶ He therefore let you be afflicted with hunger, and then fed you with manna, a food unknown to you and your fathers, in order to show you that not by bread alone does man live, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of the LORD.

이 사십 년 동안 너희 몸에 걸친 옷이 해진 적이 없고, 너희 발이 부르튼 적이 없다.

▶ The clothing did not fall from you in tatters, nor did your feet swell these forty years.

|
너희는 마치 사람이 자기 아들을 단련시키듯, 주 너희 하느님께서 너희를 단련시키신다는 것을 마음 깊이 알아 두어야 한다.”

▶ So you must realize that the LORD, your God, disciplines you even as a man disciplines his son.

“너희는 주 너희 하느님의 계명을 지키며, 그분의 길을 따라 걷고 그분을 경외해야 한다.

▶ "Therefore, keep the commandments of the LORD, your God, by walking in his ways and fearing him.
|

|
주 너희 하느님께서는 너희를 좋은 땅으로 데리고 가신다. 그곳은 물이 흐르는 시내와 샘이 있고, 골짜기와 산에서는 지하수가 솟아나오는 땅이다.

▶ For the LORD, your God, is bringing you into a good country, a land with streams of water, with springs and fountains welling up in the hills and valleys,

또 밀과 보리와 포도주와 무화과와 석류가 나는 땅이며, 올리브 기름과 꿀이 나는 땅이다.

▶ a land of wheat and barley, of vines and fig trees and pomegranates, of olive trees and of honey,

그곳은 너희가 모자람 없이 양식을 먹을 수 있고, 아쉬울 것이 하나도 없는 땅이며, 돌이 곧 쇠이고, 산에서는 구리를 캐낼 수 있는 땅이다.

|
|
|
▶ a land where you can eat bread without stint and where you will lack nothing, a land whose stones contain iron and in whose hills you can mine copper.

|
너희는 배불리 먹고, 주 너희 하느님께서 너희에게 주신 좋은 땅 때문에 그분을 찬미하게 될 것이다.

▶ But when you have eaten your fill, you must bless the LORD, your God, for the good country he has given you.
|

|
너희는 주 너희 하느님을 잊지 않도록 조심하고, 내가 오늘 너희에게 명령하는 그분의 계명과 법규와 규정들을 지키지 않는 일이 없도록 조심하여라.

▶ Be careful not to forget the LORD, your God, by neglecting his commandments and decrees and statutes which I enjoin on you today:

너희가 배불리 먹으며 좋은 집들을 짓고 살게 될 때,

|
▶ lest, when you have eaten your fill, and have built fine houses and lived in them,
|
|
13
|
또 너희 소 떼와 양 떼가 불어나고 너희에게 은과 금이 많이 생기며, 너희가 가진 모든 것이 불어날 때,

|
|
|
▶ and have increased your herds and flocks, your silver and gold, and all your property,
|
|
14
|
너희 마음이 교만해져, 너희를 이집트 땅, 종살이하던 집에서 이끌어 내신 주 너희 하느님을 잊지 않도록 하여라.

|
|
|
▶ you then become haughty of heart and unmindful of the LORD, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery;

|
그분은 불 뱀과 전갈이 있는 크고 무서운 광야, 물 없이 메마른 땅에서 너희를 인도하시고, 너희를 위하여 차돌 바위에서 물이 솟아나게 하신 분이시다.

▶ who guided you through the vast and terrible desert with its saraph serpents and scorpions, its parched and waterless ground; who brought forth water for you from the flinty rock

|
또 그 광야에서 너희 조상들이 몰랐던 만나를 너희가 먹게 해 주신 분이시다. 그것은 너희를 낮추고 시험하셔서 뒷날에 너희가 잘되게 하시려는 것이었다.

▶ and fed you in the desert with manna, a food unknown to your fathers, that he might afflict you and test you, but also make you prosperous in the end.

|
너희는 마음속으로 ‘내 능력과 내 손의 힘으로 이 재산을 마련하였다.’ 하고 생각할 수도 있다.

|
|
|
▶ Otherwise, you might say to yourselves, 'It is my own power and the strength of my own hand that has obtained for me this wealth.'

그러나 너희는 주 너희 하느님을 기억해야 한다. 바로 그분은 오늘 이처럼, 너희 조상들에게 맹세하신 계약을 이루시려고, 너희가 재산을 모으도록 너희에게 힘을 주시는 분이시다.

▶ Remember then, it is the LORD, your God, who gives you the power to acquire wealth, by fulfilling, as he has now done, the covenant which he swore to your fathers.

|
만일 너희가 정녕 주 너희 하느님을 잊고, 다른 신들을 따라가 그들을 섬기고 그들에게 경배한다면, 내가 오늘 분명히 경고하는데, 너희는 반드시 멸망하고야 말 것이다.

▶ But if you forget the LORD, your God, and follow other gods, serving and worshiping them, I forewarn you this day that you will perish utterly.

|
너희가 주 너희 하느님의 말씀을 들으려 하지 않는다면, 주님께서 너희 앞에서 멸망시키신 민족들처럼 너희도 멸망할 것이다.”

▶ Like the nations which the LORD destroys before you, so shall you too perish for not heeding the voice of the LORD, your God.
