▶ "Tell the Israelites to designate the cities of which I spoke to them through Moses,

실수로 생각 없이 사람을 쳐 죽인 살인자가 그곳으로 피신할 수 있게 하여라. 너희는 그 성읍들을 피의 보복자를 피하는 도피처로 삼아야 한다.

▶ to which one guilty of accidental and unintended homicide may flee for asylum from the avenger of blood.

|
살인자는 그 성읍들 가운데 한 곳으로 피신할 수 있다. 그러나 먼저 성문 어귀에 서서, 그 성읍의 원로들에게 자기의 사정을 설명해야 한다. 그러면 원로들은 그를 성읍 안으로 받아들인 다음, 자리를 마련해 주어 자기들과 함께 살도록 해야 한다.

▶ To one of these cities the killer shall flee, and standing at the entrance of the city gate, he shall plead his case before the elders, who must receive him and assign him a place in which to live among them.

피의 보복자가 뒤쫓아 와도 그 살인자를 그의 손에 넘겨주어서는 안 된다. 전에 그 이웃을 미워한 적 없이 생각 없이 쳐 죽였기 때문이다.

▶ Though the avenger of blood pursues him, they are not to deliver up the homicide who slew his fellow man unintentionally and not out of previous hatred.

그 살인자는 재판을 받기 위하여 공동체 앞에 설 때까지, 그리고 그때의 대사제가 죽을 때까지 그 성읍에서 살아야 한다. 그런 다음에야 자기의 성읍, 곧 자기가 도망쳐 나온 성읍, 자기 집으로 돌아갈 수 있다.’”

▶ Once he has stood judgment before the community, he shall live on in that city till the death of the high priest who is in office at the time. Then the killer may go back home to his own city from which he fled."

▶ So they set apart Kedesh in Galilee in the mountain region of Naphtali, Shechem in the mountain region of Ephraim, and Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron) in the mountain region of Judah.

그리고 요르단 건너편, 예리코 동쪽의 르우벤 지파에서는 고원 광야의 베체르를, 가드 지파에서는 길앗의 라못을, 므나쎄 지파에서는 바산의 골란을 정하였다.

▶ And beyond the Jordan east of Jericho they designated Bezer on the open tableland in the tribe of Reuben, Ramoth in Gilead in the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan in the tribe of Manasseh.

이것이 이스라엘의 모든 자손이든 그들 가운데에서 나그네살이하는 이방인이든, 실수로 사람을 쳐 죽인 자는 누구든지 그곳으로 피신할 수 있도록 지정된 성읍들이다. 살인자가 공동체 앞에 서기 전에 피의 보복자 손에 죽는 일이 있어서는 안 된다.

▶ These were the designated cities to which any Israelite or stranger living among them who had killed a person accidentally might flee to escape death at the hand of the avenger of blood, until he could appear before the community.
|
