▶ "Who is in the court?" the king asked. Now Haman had entered the outer court of the king's palace to suggest to the king that Mordecai should be hanged on the gibbet he had raised for him.

하만이 들어서자 임금이 그에게 “임금이 영예롭게 하고자 하는 사람에게 무엇을 베풀어야 하겠소?” 하고 묻자, 하만은 ‘임금님께서 나 말고 누구에게 영예를 베풀고 싶어 하시랴?’ 하고 속으로 생각하였다.

▶ When Haman entered, the king said to him, "What should be done for the man whom the king wishes to reward?" Now Haman thought to himself, "Whom would the king more probably wish to reward than me?"

▶ there should be brought the royal robe which the king wore and the horse on which the king rode when the royal crown was placed on his head.

의복과 말을 임금님의 가장 고귀한 대신의 손에 들려 보내시어, 임금님께서 영예롭게 하시고자 하는 사람에게 입히고 그 말에 태워 성읍 광장을 돌게 하면서, ‘임금님께서 영예롭게 하시고자 하는 사람은 이렇게 된다.’ 하고 그 앞에서 외치게 하시는 것이 좋겠습니다.”

▶ The robe and the horse should be consigned to one of the noblest of the king's officials, who must clothe the man the king wishes to reward, have him ride on the horse in the public square of the city, and cry out before him, "This is what is done for the man whom the king wishes to reward!' "

그러자 임금이 하만에게 말하였다. “그대가 말한 대로, 어서 그 의복과 말을 내어다가 궁궐 대문에서 근무하는 유다인 모르도카이에게 그렇게 실행하시오. 그대가 말한 것 가운데에서 하나도 빠뜨리지 마시오.”

▶ Then the king said to Haman: "Hurry! Take the robe and horse as you have proposed, and do this for the Jew Mordecai, who is sitting at the royal gate. Do not omit anything you proposed."

그래서 하만은 그 의복과 말을 내어다가, 모르도카이에게 의복을 입히고 그를 말에 태워 성읍 광장을 돌게 하면서, “임금님께서 영예롭게 하시고자 하는 사람은 이렇게 된다.” 하고 그 앞에서 외쳤다.

▶ So Haman took the robe and horse, clothed Mordecai, had him ride in the public square of the city, and cried out before him, "This is what is done for the man whom the king wishes to reward!"

그런 다음 모르도카이는 궁궐 대문으로 돌아가고, 하만은 슬퍼하면서 머리를 감싼 채 급히 자기 집으로 갔다.

▶ Mordecai then returned to the royal gate, while Haman hurried home, his head covered in grief.

하만은 아내 제레스와 자기의 모든 친구들에게 자기가 당한 일을 죄다 이야기하였다. 그러자 그의 고문들과 아내 제레스가 말하였다. “모르도카이가 유다족 출신이라면, 이제 그 앞에서 무너지기 시작한 대감은 그에게 대적할 수 없을뿐더러, 그 앞에서 무너질 수밖에 없습니다.”

▶ When he told his wife Zeresh and all his friends everything that had happened to him, his advisers and his wife Zeresh said to him, "If Mordecai, before whom you are beginning to decline, is of the Jewish race, you will not prevail against him, but will surely be defeated by him."
