|
눈의 아들 여호수아는 전쟁에서 용감하였고 예언자로서는 모세의 후계자였다. 그는 자기 이름이 뜻하는 대로 그분께서 뽑으신 이들 가운데 위대한 구원자가 되어 반역하는 원수들을 응징하고 이스라엘에게 상속의 땅을 차지하도록 해 주었다.

▶ Valiant leader was JOSHUA, son of Nun, assistant to Moses in the prophetic office, Formed to be, as his name implies, the great savior of God's chosen ones, To punish the enemy and to win the inheritance for Israel.

그가 손을 쳐들었을 때, 성읍들을 거슬러 칼을 빼들었을 때 얼마나 영광스러웠던가!

여호수아 이전에 누가 그처럼 당당했던가? 참으로 그는 주님의 전쟁을 수행하였던 것이다.

▶ And who could withstand him when he fought the battles of the LORD?

그의 손으로 태양이 멈추어 하루가 이틀이 되지 않았던가?

▶ Did he not by his power stop the sun, so that one day became two?

|
원수들이 그를 사방에서 에워싸 좁혀 올 때 그는 지극히 높으시고 전능하신 분께 호소하였고 위대하신 주님께서는 그의 호소를 들으시어 엄청나게 세찬 우박을 보내셨다.

▶ He called upon the Most High God when his enemies beset him on all sides, And God Most High gave answer to him in hailstones of tremendous power,

|
여호수아는 전쟁에서 다른 민족을 쳐 내려가 산비탈에서 적군들을 무찔렀다. 그리하여 이민족들은 그의 무장을 보면서 자신들이 주님을 거슬러 싸우고 있다는 사실을 깨닫게 되었다. 참으로 그는 전능하신 분을 충실히 따랐던 것이다.

|
모세 시대에 여호수아는 충성을 다하였고 그와 여푼네의 아들 칼렙은 회중 앞에서 백성이 범죄하지 못하도록 막았으며 그들의 사악한 불평을 가라앉혔다.

▶ and in Moses' lifetime showed himself loyal, He and CALEB, son of Jephunneh, when they opposed the rebel assembly, Averted God's anger from the people and suppressed the wicked complaint -

이 둘만이 육십만 보병 가운데에서 살아남아 백성을 상속의 땅으로, 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 땅으로 인도하였다.

▶ Because of this, they were the only two spared from the six hundred thousand infantry, To lead the people into their inheritance, the land flowing with milk and honey.

주님께서는 칼렙에게 힘을 주시어 그 힘이 노년까지 그에게 머무르게 하셨다. 칼렙은 산악 지대까지 정복하여 그의 자손이 그 땅을 상속으로 차지하게 하였다.

▶ And the strength he gave to Caleb remained with him even in his old age Till he won his way onto the summits of the land; his family too received an inheritance,

그리하여 온 이스라엘 백성은 주님을 따라 걷는 일이 얼마나 좋은가를 깨닫게 되었다.

▶ That all the people of Jacob might know how good it is to be a devoted follower of the LORD.

|
|
|
|
|
|
|

|
판관들도 각각 그 이름에 걸맞게 우상 숭배에 마음을 빼앗기지 않았고 주님에게서 돌아서지도 않았다. 그러니 그들이 축복 속에서 기억되기를!

▶ The JUDGES, too, each one of them, whose hearts were not deceived, Who did not abandon God: may their memory be ever blessed,

그들의 뼈가 그들의 무덤에서 다시 일어나고 그들의 이름이 그 후손들 가운데에서 영광스럽게 받아들여지기를!

▶ Their bones return to life from their resting place, and their names receive fresh luster in their children!

|
사무엘은 주님께 사랑을 받고 주님의 예언자로서 왕정을 수립하였으며 그분의 백성을 다스릴 통치자들에게 기름을 부어 주었다.

▶ Beloved of his people, dear to his Maker, dedicated from his mother's womb, Consecrated to the LORD as a prophet, was SAMUEL, the judge and priest. At God's word he established the kingdom and anointed princes to rule the people.

그는 주님의 법으로 회중에게 판결을 내렸고 주님께서는 야곱을 돌보셨다.

▶ By the law of the LORD he judged the nation, when he visited the encampments of Jacob.

사무엘은 자신의 믿음으로써 참예언자로 확인받았고 자신의 말로써 믿을 만한 환시가로 알려졌다.

▶ As a trustworthy prophet he was sought out and his words proved him true as a seer.

|
원수들이 그를 사방에서 에워싸 좁혀 올 때 전능하신 주님께 호소하였고 젖먹이 양을 제물로 바쳤다.

|
▶ He, too, called upon God, and offered him a suckling lamb;
|

|
그러자 주님께서는 하늘에서 천둥을 내리시고 큰 소리로 당신의 목소리를 들려주셨다.

▶ Then the LORD thundered forth from heaven, and the tremendous roar of his voice was heard.
|

|
사무엘은 티로의 군주들과 필리스티아의 통치자들을 모조리 없애 버렸다.

▶ He brought low the rulers of the enemy and destroyed all the lords of the Philistines.

|
사무엘은 영원히 잠들 시간이 다가오자 주님과 그분의 기름부음받은이 앞에서 이렇게 증언하였다. "나는 어느 누구에게서도 재물은커녕 신발 한 켤레도 빼앗은 것이 없다." 그래서 어떤 사람도 그를 비난하지 않았다.

▶ When Samuel approached the end of his life, he testified before the LORD and his anointed prince, "No bribe or secret gift have I taken from any man!" and no one dared gainsay him.

|
사무엘은 잠든 다음에도 예언을 하였는데 임금에게 닥쳐올 죽음을 미리 알려 주었고 예언으로 백성의 무도함을 없애려고 땅속에서조차 목소리를 높였다.

▶ Even when he lay buried, his guidance was sought; he made known to the king his fate, And from the grave he raised his voice as a prophet, to put an end to wickedness.
