네 입에 뿔 나팔을 대어라. 원수가 독수리처럼 주님의 집에 들이닥친다. 이스라엘이 나의 계약을 어기고 나의 가르침을 거역하였기 때문이다.

이스라엘은 좋은 것을 뿌리쳤으니 원수가 그를 뒤쫓으리라.

그들이 임금들을 세웠지만 나와는 상관없고 대신들을 뽑았지만 나는 모르는 일이다. 그들은 은과 금으로 신상들을 만들었지만 그것은 망하려고 한 짓일 뿐이다.

그들이 바람을 심었으니 회오리바람을 거두리라. 줄기에 이삭이 패지 못하니 알곡이 생길 리 없다. 알곡이 생긴다 하여도 낯선 자들이 그것을 집어삼켜 버리리라.

이스라엘은 먹히고 말았다. 이제 그들은 민족들 사이에서 쓸모없는 그릇처럼 되어 버렸다.

그들이 돈을 주고 민족들에게 사랑을 샀어도 이제 내가 그들을 끌어 모으리니 그들은 임금과 대신들이 지우는 짐에 눌려 머지않아 몸부림치리라.

에프라임이 제단들을 많이도 만들었지만 그것은 죄를 짓는 일이요 그 제단들은 죄짓는 제단일 뿐이다.

그들은 희생 제물을 좋아하여 그것을 바치고 그 고기를 먹지만 주님은 그들을 받아들이지 않는다. 이제 주님은 그들의 잘못을 기억하고 그들의 죄를 벌하리니 그들은 이집트로 돌아가야 하리라.

▶ Though they offer sacrifice, immolate flesh and eat it, the LORD is not pleased with them. He shall still remember their guilt and punish their sins; they shall return to Egypt.

이스라엘은 자기를 지은 이를 잊어버리고 궁궐들을 지었다. 유다는 요새 성읍들을 많이도 만들었지만 나는 그 성읍들에 불을 보내어 그 성채들을 삼켜 버리게 하리라.
