우리가 속된 방식으로 살아간다고 생각하는 몇몇 사람에게는 내가 확신을 가지고 대담해질 작정입니다만, 내가 여러분에게 가서 곁에 있을 때에는 그럴 필요가 없게 해 주기를 당부합니다.

▶ and every pretension raising itself against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive in obedience to Christ,

▶ and we are ready to punish every disobedience, once your obedience is complete.

눈앞에 있는 것들을 보십시오. 자기가 그리스도의 사람이라고 어떤 이가 확신한다면, 자기가 그리스도의 사람이듯이 우리도 그러하다는 사실을 명심해야 합니다.

▶ Look at what confronts you. Whoever is confident of belonging to Christ should consider that as he belongs to Christ, so do we.

▶ For someone will say, "His letters are severe and forceful, but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible."

그러한 사람은, 우리가 떨어져 있으면서 편지로 써 보내는 말과 곁에 있으면서 하는 행동이 똑같다는 사실을 명심해야 합니다.

▶ Such a person must understand that what we are in word through letters when absent, that we also are in action when present.
|

그렇다고 스스로 자신을 내세우는 자들과 우리 자신을 같은 부류로 여기거나 우리 자신을 그들과 견주어 보려는 생각은 아예 하지 않습니다. 사실 그들은 저희끼리 서로 대어 보고 저희끼리 견주어 보고 있으니 분별없는 자들입니다.

▶ Not that we dare to class or compare ourselves with some of those who recommend themselves. But when they measure themselves by one another and compare themselves with one another, they are without understanding.

그러나 우리는 한도를 넘어서 자랑하지는 않을 것입니다. 하느님께서 우리에게 정해 주신 적정 한도 안에서만 그리할 터인데, 거기에는 여러분도 포함됩니다.

▶ But we will not boast beyond measure but will keep to the limits God has apportioned us, namely, to reach even to you.
|

|
우리는 여러분에게 가지 않았던 사람처럼 이 한도 너머로 손을 뻗는 것이 아닙니다. 사실 그리스도의 복음을 가지고 처음으로 여러분을 찾아간 사람은 우리입니다.

▶ For we are not overreaching ourselves, as though we did not reach you; we indeed first came to you with the gospel of Christ.

|
우리는 한도를 넘어, 남이 수고한 것을 가지고 자랑하지 않습니다. 다만 여러분의 믿음이 자람에 따라, 여러분 가운데에서 우리의 활동 영역이 더욱 커져 가기를 바랄 뿐입니다.

▶ We are not boasting beyond measure, in other people's labors; yet our hope is that, as your faith increases, our influence among you may be greatly enlarged, within our proper limits,

그러면 우리가 남의 활동 영역에서 이루어진 것을 가지고 자랑하는 일 없이, 여러분의 지역을 넘어서 복음을 전할 수 있게 됩니다.

▶ so that we may preach the gospel even beyond you, not boasting of work already done in another's sphere.
