▶ "If the corpse of a slain man is found lying in the open on the land which the LORD, your God, is giving you to occupy, and it is not known who killed him,

너희의 원로들과 판관들이 나가서, 살해당한 사람이 있는 곳에서 주변 성읍들에 이르는 거리를 재어야 한다.

▶ your elders and judges shall go out and measure the distances to the cities that are in the neighborhood of the corpse.

|
그러면 살해당한 사람에게서 가장 가까운 성읍이 있을 것이다. 그 성읍의 원로들은 아직 부린 적도 없고, 멍에를 메워 끌어 본 적도 없는 암송아지 한 마리를 끌고 와야 한다.

그러고 나서 성읍의 원로들은 늘 물이 흐르는 골짜기로 그 암송아지를 끌고 내려가, 갈지도 씨 뿌리지도 않은 그 시냇가에서 암송아지의 목을 꺾어야 한다.

▶ and bringing it down to a wadi with an everflowing stream at a place that has not been plowed or sown, they shall cut the heifer's throat there in the wadi.

그런 다음에 레위의 자손 사제들이 앞으로 나와야 한다. 주 너희 하느님께서 그들을 선택하시어 당신을 섬기고 주님의 이름으로 축복하게 하셨으며, 그들의 판결에 따라 모든 송사와 폭력 사건이 해결될 것이기 때문이다.

이렇게 너희는 주님의 눈에 드는 옳은 일을 하여, 너희 가운데에서 무죄한 이가 흘린 피에 대한 책임을 치워 버려야 한다.”

▶ if you see a comely woman among the captives and become so enamored of her that you wish to have her as wife,

너희는 그 여자를 집으로 데리고 들어가서, 그 여자가 머리를 자르고 손톱 발톱을 손질한 다음,

|
|
|
▶ you may take her home to your house. But before she may live there, she must shave her head and pare her nails
|

|
포로 때에 입었던 옷을 벗게 해야 한다. 그 여자는 너희 집에 살면서 한 달 동안 자기 아버지와 어머니를 위하여 곡을 해야 한다. 그런 다음에 그 여자와 동침하여 남편이 되면 그 여자는 아내가 된다.

▶ and lay aside her captive's garb. After she has mourned her father and mother for a full month, you may have relations with her, and you shall be her husband and she shall be your wife.

그러나 그 여자가 너희 마음에 들지 않으면 마음대로 가게 하되, 돈을 받고 팔 수는 없다. 너희가 그 여자를 욕되게 하였으므로 함부로 다루어서는 안 된다.”

그 사람이 아들들에게 재산을 물려주는 날, 맏아들인 미움 받는 여자의 아들 대신에 사랑받는 여자의 아들에게 장자권을 줄 수 없다.

▶ when he comes to bequeath his property to his sons he may not consider as his first-born the son of the wife he loves, in preference to his true first-born, the son of the wife whom he dislikes.

미움 받는 여자의 아들을 맏아들로 인정하여 그에게 자기의 모든 재산에서 두 몫을 주어야 한다. 그 아들이 자기 정력의 맏물이며 그에게 맏아들의 권리가 있기 때문이다.”

▶ his father and mother shall have him apprehended and brought out to the elders at the gate of his home city,

그들에게 ‘이 우리 아들은 고집이 셀뿐더러 반항만 하며 우리 말을 듣지 않는 데다가 방탕아이고 술꾼입니다.’ 하고 말해야 한다.

▶ where they shall say to those city elders, 'This son of ours is a stubborn and unruly fellow who will not listen to us; he is a glutton and a drunkard.

그러면 그 성읍의 남자들이 모두 그에게 돌을 던져 죽여야 한다. 그렇게 너희는 너희 가운데에서 악을 치워 버려야 한다. 온 이스라엘은 그것을 듣고 두려워할 것이다.”

그 주검을 밤새도록 나무에 매달아 두어서는 안 된다. 반드시 그날로 묻어야 한다. 나무에 매달린 사람은 하느님의 저주를 받은 자이기 때문이다. 너희는 주 너희 하느님께서 너희에게 상속 재산으로 주시는 땅을 부정하게 만들어서는 안 된다.”

▶ it shall not remain on the tree overnight. You shall bury it the same day; otherwise, since God's curse rests on him who hangs on a tree, you will defile the land which the LORD, your God, is giving you as an inheritance.
