▶ After some time, in the season of the wheat harvest, Samson visited his wife, bringing a kid. But when he said, "Let me be with my wife in private," her father would not let him enter,

그를 타일렀다. “나는 자네가 틀림없이 그 애를 미워한다고 생각하였네. 그래서 그 애를 자네 동료에게 주어 버렸네. 그 애보다는 동생이 더 예쁘지 않나? 동생을 대신 아내로 삼게나.”

▶ saying, "I thought it certain you wished to repudiate her; so I gave her to your best man. Her younger sister is more beautiful than she; you may have her instead."

그러자 삼손이 그들에게 대답하였다. “내가 필리스티아인들에게 해를 끼친다 해도, 이번만은 그들이 나를 탓할 수 없을 것이오.”

▶ Samson said to them, "This time the Philistines cannot blame me if I harm them."

그러고 나서 삼손은 밖으로 나가 여우 삼백 마리를 사로잡고 홰도 마련한 다음, 꼬리를 서로 비끄러매고서는 그 두 꼬리 사이에 홰를 하나씩 매달았다.

▶ So Samson left and caught three hundred foxes. Turning them tail to tail, he tied between each pair of tails one of the torches he had at hand.

이어서 홰에 불을 붙여 여우들을 필리스티아인들의 곡식밭으로 내보냈다. 이렇게 하여 그는 곡식 가리뿐 아니라, 베지 않은 곡식과 포도밭과 올리브 나무까지 태워 버렸다.

▶ He then kindled the torches and set the foxes loose in the standing grain of the Philistines, thus burning both the shocks and the standing grain, and the vineyards and olive orchards as well.

“누가 이 짓을 했느냐?” 하고 필리스티아인들이 묻자, 사람들이 “팀나 사람의 사위 삼손이오. 삼손의 아내를 그의 동료에게 주어 버렸기 때문이오.” 하고 대답하였다. 그리하여 필리스티아인들이 올라가서 그 여자와 아버지를 불태워 버렸다.

▶ When the Philistines asked who had done this, they were told, "Samson, the son-in-law of the Timnite, because his wife was taken and given to his best man." So the Philistines went up and destroyed her and her family by fire.

그러자 삼손이 그들에게 말하였다. “너희가 이런 식으로 한다면 좋다. 내가 너희에게 원수를 갚기 전에는 결코 그만두지 않겠다.”

▶ Samson said to them, "If this is how you act, I will not stop until I have taken revenge on you."

그러고 나서 삼손은 닥치는 대로 필리스티아인들을 쳐 죽이고는, 에탐 바위로 내려가 그 바위틈에 머물렀다.

▶ And with repeated blows, he inflicted a great slaughter on them. Then he went down and remained in a cavern of the cliff of Etam.

필리스티아인들이 올라와서 유다에 진을 치고 르히를 습격하였다.

▶ The Philistines went up and, from a camp in Judah, deployed against Lehi.

유다 사람들이 “어째서 우리에게 올라왔소?” 하고 묻자, 그들은 “삼손을 묶어 그자가 우리에게 한 그대로 해 주려고 올라왔소.” 하고 대답하였다.

▶ When the men of Judah asked, "Why have you come up against us?" they answered, "To take Samson prisoner; to do to him as he has done to us."

그래서 유다 사람 삼천 명이 에탐 바위 틈으로 내려가서 삼손에게 말하였다. “자네는 필리스티아인들이 우리를 지배한다는 것을 알지 않나? 그런데 어째서 우리에게 이런 일을 하였단 말인가?” 삼손이 그들에게, “저들이 나에게 한 대로 나도 저들에게 한 것뿐이오.” 하고 대답하자,

▶ Three thousand men of Judah went down to the cavern in the cliff of Etam and said to Samson, "Do you not know that the Philistines are our rulers? Why, then, have you done this to us?" He answered them, "As they have done to me, so have I done to them."
|

그들이 삼손에게 말하였다. “우리는 자네를 묶어 필리스티아인들의 손에 넘기려고 내려왔네.” 삼손이 그들에게 “그러면 나를 때려죽이지 않겠다고 맹세해 주시오.” 하고 말하였다.

▶ They said to him, "We have come to take you prisoner, to deliver you over to the Philistines." Samson said to them, "Swear to me that you will not kill me yourselves."

그러자 그들이 “그러고 말고. 우리는 자네를 결박만 해서 저들 손에 넘길 뿐 결코 죽이지는 않겠네.” 하고 나서, 새 밧줄 두 개로 그를 묶어 그 바위에서 끌어 올렸다.

|
▶ No," they replied,"we will certainly not kill you but will only bind you and deliver you over to them." So they bound him with two new ropes and brought him up from the cliff.

|
이렇게 하여 삼손이 르히까지 가자, 필리스티아인들이 소리를 지르며 그에게 마주 왔다. 그때에 주님의 영이 삼손에게 들이닥쳤다. 그러자 그의 팔을 동여맨 밧줄들이 불에 탄 아마포처럼 되었다. 그래서 그를 묶은 그 포승이 녹아내리듯 그의 손에서 떨어져 나갔다.

▶ When he reached Lehi, and the Philistines came shouting to meet him, the spirit of the LORD came upon him: the ropes around his arms became as flax that is consumed by fire and his bonds melted away from his hands.

삼손은 싱싱한 당나귀 턱뼈 하나를 발견하고 손을 내밀어 그것을 잡아, 그 턱뼈로 천 명을 쳐 죽였다.

▶ Near him was the fresh jawbone of an ass; he reached out, grasped it, and with it killed a thousand men.

그러고 나서 삼손은 이렇게 말하였다. “당나귀 턱뼈로 나 그들을 마구 두들겨 팼다네. 당나귀 턱뼈로 천 명을 쳐 죽였다네.”

▶ Then Samson said, "With the jawbone of an ass I have piled them in a heap; With the jawbone of an ass I have slain a thousand men."

|
말을 마친 삼손은 그 턱뼈를 손에서 내던졌다. 그래서 그곳을 라맛 르히라고 하였다.

▶ As he finished speaking he threw the jawbone from him; and so that place was named Ramath-lehi.
|

|
삼손은 몹시 목이 말라 주님께 부르짖었다. “당신께서는 당신 종의 손을 통하여 이 큰 승리를 베푸셨습니다. 그런데 이제 제가 목이 말라 죽어서, 저 할례 받지 않은 자들 손에 떨어져야 하겠습니까?”

▶ Being very thirsty, he cried to the LORD and said, "You have granted this great victory by the hand of your servant. Must I now die of thirst or fall into the hands of the uncircumcised?"

하느님께서 르히에 있는 우묵한 곳을 쪼개시니 거기에서 물이 솟아 나왔다. 삼손이 그 물을 마시자 정신이 들어 되살아났다. 그리하여 그 이름을 엔 코레라고 하였는데, 그것은 오늘날까지 르히에 있다.

▶ Then God split the cavity in Lehi, and water issued from it, which Samson drank till his spirit returned and he revived. Hence that spring in Lehi is called En-hakkore to this day.
