주님의 눈은 당신을 사랑하는 이들 위에 머무시니 그들에게 든든한 방패요 힘 있는 버팀목이시며 열풍을 막아 주는 쉼터요 한낮의 뙤약볕을 가려 주는 그늘이시다. 또 비틀거리지 않게 지켜 주시고 넘어지지 않게 붙잡아 주신다.

시체를 만지고 나서 손을 씻은 뒤 다시 만진다면 씻는 일이 무슨 소용이 있느냐?

이처럼 어떤 사람이 자기 죄 때문에 단식을 하고 나가서 같은 죄를 짓는다면 누가 그의 기도를 들어 주겠느냐? 또 자신을 낮추는 일이 무슨 소용이 있겠느냐?
