당신께서는 저의 보호자요 협조자가 되시어 이 몸을 멸망에서 구해 주셨습니다. 당신께서는 중상하는 혀의 올가미와 거짓을 꾸며 내는 자들의 입술에서 저를 건져 주셨습니다. 당신께서는 제 주위 사람들 앞에서 협조자가 되시어 저를 구하셨습니다.

▶ you have been my helper against my adversaries. You have saved me from death, and kept back my body from the pit, From the clutches of the nether world you have snatched my feet;

크신 자비와 당신의 이름으로 저를 삼키려는 자들의 올무에서, 제 영혼을 노리는 자들의 손아귀에서, 제게 닥친 수많은 환난에서 저를 구하셨습니다.

▶ you have delivered me, in your great mercy, From the scourge of a slanderous tongue, and from lips that went over to falsehood; From the snare of those who watched for my downfall, and from the power of those who sought my life; From many a danger you have saved me,

사방에서 타올라 저를 질식시키는 불길에서, 제가 지피지도 않은 불길 한가운데에서 저를 구하셨습니다.

▶ from the arrows of dishonest tongues. I was at the point of death, my soul was nearing the depths of the nether world;

곳곳에서 저를 에워쌌지만 아무도 저를 도와주는 이 없었고 사람들에게 도움을 구했지만 아무도 없었습니다.

▶ I turned every way, but there was no one to help me, I looked for one to sustain me, but could find no one.

주님, 그때 저는 당신의 자비를 기억하고 영원으로부터 드러난 당신의 자애를 기억하였습니다. 당신께서는 당신을 고대하는 이들을 구출해 내시고 악인들의 손에서 그들을 구원해 주십니다.

▶ But then I remembered the mercies of the LORD, his kindness through ages past; For he saves those who take refuge in him, and rescues them from every evil.

그리하여 저는 땅에서 당신께 간청을 올렸고 죽음에서 구출해 주십사고 기도드렸습니다.

▶ So I raised my voice from the very earth, from the gates of the nether world, my cry.

저는 제 주인의 아버지이신 주님께 환난의 날에 거만한 자들 앞에서 도움이 끊겼을 때 저를 버리지 말아 주십사고 부르짖었습니다.

▶ I called out: O Lord, you are my father, you are my champion and my savior; Do not abandon me in time of trouble, in the midst of storms and dangers.

저는 당신의 이름을 끊임없이 찬미하고 감사의 노래를 읊었습니다. 그러자 제 기도를 들어 주셨습니다.

▶ I will ever praise your name and be constant in my prayers to you. Thereupon the LORD heard my voice, he listened to my appeal;

과연 당신께서는 저를 멸망에서 구원하셨고 곤경의 날에 저를 건져 주셨습니다. 그러므로 제가 당신께 감사와 찬미를 드리고 주님의 이름을 찬양하오리다.

▶ He saved me from evil of every kind and preserved me in time of trouble. For this reason I thank him and I praise him; I bless the name of the LORD.

지혜를 열렬히 추구함

내가 아직 젊고 떠돌이 생활을 하기 전에 나는 기도 가운데 드러내 놓고 지혜를 구하였다.

▶ When I was young and innocent, I sought wisdom.

나는 성전 앞에서 지혜를 달라고 청하였는데 마지막까지도 지혜를 구할 것이다.

▶ She came to me in her beauty, and until the end I will cultivate her.

|
꽃이 피고 포도가 익어 가는 것처럼 내 마음은 지혜 안에서 기뻐하였다. 내 발은 올바른 길을 걸었으며 젊은 시절부터 지혜를 찾아다녔다.

▶ As the blossoms yielded to ripening grapes, the heart's joy, My feet kept to the level path because from earliest youth I was familiar with her.

나는 조금씩 귀를 기울여 지혜를 받아들였고 스스로를 위해 많은 가르침을 얻었다.

▶ In the short time I paid heed, I met with great instruction.

사실 나는 지혜를 실천하기로 결심하였고 선을 추구해 왔으니 결코 수치를 당하지 않으리라.

내 영혼은 지혜를 얻으려 애썼고 율법을 엄격하게 실천하였다. 나는 하늘을 향해 손을 펼쳐 들고 지혜를 알지 못함을 탄식하였다.

▶ I burned with desire for her, never turning back. I became preoccupied with her, never weary of extolling her. My hand opened her gate and I came to know her secrets.

나는 내 영혼을 지혜 쪽으로 기울였고 순결함 속에서 지혜를 발견하였다. 내가 처음부터 지혜와 더불어 깨달음을 얻었으니 결코 저버림을 당하지 않으리라.

▶ For her I purified my hands; in cleanness I attained to her. At first acquaintance with her, I gained understanding such that I will never forsake her.

지혜를 찾으려고 애간장을 태웠기에 나는 그 좋은 재산을 얻게 되었다.

▶ My whole being was stirred as I learned about her; therefore I have made her my prize possession.

주님께서는 나에게 보상으로 혀를 주셨으니 나는 그 혀로 주님을 찬미하리라.

▶ The LORD has granted me my lips as a reward, and my tongue will declare his praises.

|
배우지 못한 자들아, 내게 가까이 오너라. 내 배움의 집에 와서 묵어라.

▶ Come aside to me, you untutored, and take up lodging in the house of instruction;
|

|
너희는 어찌하여 아직도 지혜 없이 지내며 너희 영혼은 극심한 갈증에 시달리느냐?

|
|
▶ How long will you be deprived of wisdom's food, how long will you endure such bitter thirst?
|
|

|
나는 입을 열어 이렇게 말하였다. “돈 없이 지혜를 차지하여라.”

|
|
▶ I open my mouth and speak of her: gain, at no cost, wisdom for yourselves.
|

|
너희 목에 멍에를 씌우고 너희 영혼이 그 가르침을 받아들이게 하여라. 그것은 곁에 있어 찾기 쉽다.

|
|
|
▶ Submit your neck to her yoke, that your mind may accept her teaching. For she is close to those who seek her, and the one who is in earnest finds her.

나 자신이 얼마나 적은 노력을 기울여 큰 안식을 얻게 되었는지 너희 눈으로 보아라.

▶ See for yourselves! I have labored only a little, but have found much.

많은 양의 은으로 가르침을 얻어라. 그리고 그것으로 많은 금을 차지하여라.

▶ Acquire but a little instruction; you will win silver and gold through her.

너희 영혼이 주님의 자비 안에서 기쁨을 누리기를! 너희는 그분을 찬미하는 일을 부끄러워하지 마라.

|
▶ Let your spirits rejoice in the mercy of God, and be not ashamed to give him praise.

정해진 때가 오기 전에 너희 일을 처리하여라. 그러면 주님께서 정하신 때에 너희에게 상급을 주시리라.
