▶ Thus says the LORD: Learn not the customs of the nations, and have no fear of the signs of the heavens, though the nations fear them.

그 백성들의 관습은 헛것이다. 사실 나무가 숲 속에서 잘라진 뒤 장인의 손에서 도끼로 다듬어지고

▶ adorned with silver and gold. With nails and hammers they are fastened, that they may not totter.

그러나 주님은 진리의 하느님, 그분은 살아 계신 하느님이시요 영원한 임금님이시다. 그분의 진노에 땅이 뒤흔들리니 민족들이 그분의 노여움을 견뎌 낼 수 없다.

그분께서 소리를 내시자 하늘의 물이 요동친다. 그분께서는 땅 끝에서 안개가 피어오르게 하신다. 비가 내리도록 번개를 만드시고 당신의 곳간에서 바람을 꺼내신다.

▶ When he thunders, the waters in the heavens roar, and he brings up clouds from the end of the earth; He makes the lightning flash in the rain, and releases stormwinds from their chambers.

사람은 누구나 어리석고 지식이 모자란다. 대장장이는 누구나 우상 탓에 수치를 당한다. 사실 그가 부어 만든 상은 가짜라서 그 안에 숨결이 없다.

▶ Nothingness are they, a ridiculous work; they will perish in their time of punishment.

야곱의 몫은 이런 것들과는 다르다. 그분은 만물을 지으신 분이시고 이스라엘은 그분께서 상속 재산으로 삼으신 족속이기 때문이다. 그 이름 만군의 주님이시다.

정녕 주님께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. “내가 이번에는 이 땅의 주민들을 쫓아내고 그들에게 재난을 가져오리니 그들이 그것을 겪게 되리라.”
