▶ The following message came to Jeremiah from the LORD:

이 계약의 말씀을 들어라. 유다 사람들과 예루살렘 주민들에게 전하여라.

▶ Speak to the men of Judah and to the citizens of Jerusalem,
|
|

|
너는 그들에게 이렇게 말하여라. “주 이스라엘의 하느님께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. ‘이 계약의 말씀을 듣지 않는 자는 저주를 받을 것이다.

▶ saying to them: Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: Cursed be the man who does not observe the terms of this covenant,

이 계약의 말씀은 내가 너희 조상들을 이집트 땅에서, 곧 쇠를 녹이는 도가니에서 끄집어내던 날, 그들에게 이렇게 내린 명령이었다. ′내 말을 듣고 내가 너희에게 명령한 모든 일을 하여라. 그러면 너희는 나의 백성이 되고 나는 너희의 하느님이 될 것이다.′

▶ which I enjoined upon your fathers the day I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, that iron foundry, saying: Listen to my voice and do all that I command you. Then you shall be my people, and I will be your God.
|

이는 내가 너희 조상들에게 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 땅을 주겠다고 한 맹세를 지키려는 것이었다. 그 결과는 오늘날 너희가 보는 대로다.’” 이 말씀에 나는 “주님, 참으로 그렇습니다.” 하고 대답하였다.

▶ Thus I will fulfill the oath which I swore to your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey: the one you have today. "Amen, LORD," I answered.

주님께서 다시 나에게 말씀하셨다. “유다 성읍들과 예루살렘 거리에서 이 모든 말을 선포하여라. ‘이 계약의 말씀을 듣고 그것을 실천하여라.

▶ Then the LORD said to me: Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem: Hear the words of this covenant and obey them.
|

이는 내가 너희 조상들을 이집트 땅에서 데려 내오던 날, 내 말을 들으라고 그들에게 경고했고, 그 경고는 오늘에 이르기까지 계속되고 있기 때문이다.

▶ Urgently and constantly I warned your fathers to obey my voice, from the day I brought them up out of the land of Egypt even to this day.
|

그러나 그들은 순종하지도 귀를 기울이지도 않았다. 오히려 저마다 제 악한 생각대로 고집스럽게 굴었다. 그래서 나는 그들에게 지키라고 명령했는데도 지키지 않은 이 계약의 모든 말씀대로, 그들에게 집행하였다.’”

▶ But they did not listen or give ear. Each one followed the hardness of his evil heart, till I brought upon them all the threats of this covenant which they had failed to observe as I commanded them.

주님께서 또 나에게 말씀하셨다. “유다 사람들과 예루살렘 주민들의 반역이 드러났다.

▶ A conspiracy has been found, the LORD said to me, among the men of Judah and the citizens of Jerusalem.
|

|
그들 또한 내 말을 듣기를 마다하였던 조상들의 악습으로 되돌아가 다른 신들을 좇아 다니며 섬겼다. 이스라엘 집안과 유다 집안은 내가 그들의 조상과 맺은 내 계약을 깨뜨렸다.”

▶ They have returned to the crimes of their forefathers who refused to obey my words. They also have followed and served strange gods; the covenant which I had made with their fathers, the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken.

그러므로 주님께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. “이제 내가 그들에게 벗어날 수 없는 재앙을 내리리니, 그들이 나에게 울부짖어도 그 말을 듣지 않을 것이다.

▶ Therefore, thus says the LORD: See, I bring upon them misfortune which they cannot escape. Though they cry out to me, I will not listen to them.
|

|
그렇게 되면 유다의 성읍들과 예루살렘 주민들은 자신들이 향을 피우는 신들에게 가서 울부짖겠지만, 그 신들이 재앙의 때에 그들을 구원해 줄 수 없을 것이다.

|
|
|
▶ Then the cities of Judah and the citizens of Jerusalem will go and cry out to the gods to which they have been offering incense. But these gods will give them no help whatever when misfortune strikes.
|

|
유다야, 너희 신들이 너희 성읍만큼이나 많고 너희가 우상을 위해 세운 제단, 곧 바알에게 향을 피우려고 세운 제단이 예루살렘 골목만큼이나 많구나!

|
|
|
|
|
▶ For as numerous as your cities are your gods, O Judah! And as many as the streets of Jerusalem are the altars for offering sacrifice to Baal.
|
|

|
그러므로 너는 이 백성을 위하여 기도하지 마라. 그들을 위하여 탄원도 기도도 올리지 마라. 그들이 재앙의 때에 나에게 부르짖어도 나는 듣지 않으리라.”

|
|
|
▶ Do not intercede on behalf of this people, nor utter a plea for them. I will not listen when they call to me at the time of their misfortune.

내 애인은 그토록 못된 짓을 저지르고서도 무엇하러 내 집에 들어와 있는가? 맹세와 고기를 제물로 바친다고 너의 재앙을 돌릴 수 있겠느냐? 그러면서도 너는 좋아라 날뛰느냐?

▶ What right has my beloved in my house, while she prepares her plots? Can vows and sacred meat turn away your misfortune from you? Will you still be jubilant

|
주님께서 너의 이름을 “푸른 잎이 무성한 올리브 나무 열매가 풍성한 아름다운 나무”라고 하셨지. 그러나 거센 폭풍 소리와 더불어 그분께서 그 나무에 불을 붙이시리니 그 가지들이 타 없어지리라.

▶ when you hear the great invasion? A spreading olive tree, goodly to behold, the LORD has named you; Now he sets fire to it, its branches burn.

|
너를 심어 주신 만군의 주님께서 너에게 재앙을 선포하신다. 바알에게 향을 피워 나를 진노케 한 이스라엘 집안과 유다 집안의 사악함 때문이다.

▶ The LORD of hosts who planted you has decreed misfortune for you because of the evil done by the house of Israel and by the house of Judah, who provoked me by sacrificing to Baal.

주님께서 저에게 알려 주시어 제가 알아차리게 되었습니다. 당신께서 저에게 그들의 악행을 보여 주셨습니다.

▶ I knew it because the LORD informed me; at that time you, O LORD, showed me their doings.

그런데도 저는 도살장으로 끌려가는 순한 어린 양 같았습니다. 저는 그들이 저를 없애려고 음모를 꾸미는 줄 알아차리지 못했습니다. “저 나무를 열매째 베어 버리자. 그를 산 이들의 땅에서 없애 버려 아무도 그의 이름을 다시는 기억하지 못하게 하자.”

그러나 정의롭게 판단하시고 마음과 속을 떠보시는 만군의 주님 당신께 제 송사를 맡겨 드렸으니 당신께서 저들에게 복수하시는 것을 보게 해 주소서.

그러므로 “주님의 이름으로 예언하지 마라. 그렇게 하면 우리 손으로 너를 죽이겠다.” 하고 말하면서 내 목숨을 노리는 아나톳 사람들을 두고, 주님께서 이렇게 말씀하셨다.

“그러므로 만군의 주님께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. ‘이제 내가 그들을 벌하겠다. 젊은이들이 칼에 맞아 죽고 그 아들딸들이 굶어 죽을 것이다.

|

|
아나톳 사람들 가운데 아무도 살아남는 자가 없으리니, 징벌의 해에 내가 그들에게 재앙을 불러들일 것이기 때문이다.’”
