이스라엘의 원로 몇 사람이 나에게 와서 내 앞에 앉았다.

▶ When certain elders of Israel came and sat down before me,
|

|
그때에 주님의 말씀이 나에게 내렸다.

|
|
|
▶ the word of the LORD came to me:
|

“사람의 아들아, 이 사람들은 자기 우상들을 마음에 품고, 자기들을 죄에 빠뜨리는 걸림돌을 제 앞에다 모셔 놓은 자들이다. 내가 어찌 이러한 자들의 문의를 받을 수가 있겠느냐?

|
▶ Son of man, these men have the memory of their idols fresh in their hearts, and they keep the occasion of their sin before them. Why should I allow myself to be consulted by them?
|

|
그러므로 그들에게 일러라. ‘주 하느님이 이렇게 말한다. 누구든지 이스라엘 집안에 속한 사람으로서, 자기 우상들을 마음에 품고 자기를 죄에 빠뜨리는 걸림돌을 제 앞에다 놓은 채 예언자에게 오면, 그 많은 우상 때문에 나 주님이 직접 그에게 대답하겠다.

▶ Therefore speak with them, and say to them: Thus says the Lord GOD: If anyone of the house of Israel, holding the memory of his idols in his heart and keeping the occasion of his sin before him, has recourse to a prophet, I, the LORD, will be his answer in person because of his many idols.

그리하여 자기들의 그 모든 우상 때문에 나에게 등을 돌린 이스라엘 집안의 마음을 사로잡겠다.’

▶ Thus would I bring back to their senses the house of Israel, who have become estranged from me through all their idols.
|

|
그러므로 이스라엘 집안에게 말하여라. ‘주 하느님이 이렇게 말한다. 돌아와라. 너희 우상들에게서 돌아서라. 너희의 그 모든 역겨운 것에서 얼굴을 돌려라.

|
▶ Therefore say to the house of Israel: Thus says the Lord GOD: Return and be converted from your idols; turn yourselves away from all your abominations.
|

|
누구든지 이스라엘 집안에 속한 사람이든 이스라엘에 머무르는 이방인이든, 나에게 등을 돌려 자기 우상을 마음에 품고, 자기를 죄에 빠뜨리는 걸림돌을 제 앞에다 놓은 채, 예언자를 통하여 나에게 문의하려고 그에게 가면, 나 주님이 직접 그에게 대답하겠다.

▶ For if anyone of the house of Israel or any alien resident in Israel is estranged from me, and holds the memory of his idols in his heart and keeps the occasion of his sin before him, yet asks a prophet to consult me for him, I, the LORD, will be his answer in person.

|
나는 그 사람에게 얼굴을 돌려 그를 표징과 속담 거리로 만들고, 내 백성 가운데에서 잘라 내겠다. 그제야 너희는 내가 주님임을 알게 될 것이다.

▶ I will turn against that man, and make of him an example and a byword. I will cut him off from the midst of my people. Thus you shall know that I am the LORD.

그런데 만일 예언자가 속아 넘어가서 무슨 말을 선포하였다면, 이는 나 주님이 그 예언자를 속인 것이다. 나는 그에게 손을 뻗어 그를 내 백성 이스라엘 가운데에서 없애 버리겠다.

▶ As for the prophet, if he is beguiled into speaking a word, I, the LORD, shall have beguiled that prophet; I will stretch out my hand against him and root him out of my people Israel.

|
그들은 자기들의 죗값을 짊어져야 한다. 문의하는 자의 죄나 예언자의 죄나 마찬가지다.

▶ Each shall receive punishment for his sin, the inquirer and the prophet shall be punished alike,
|
|

|
그래서 이스라엘 집안이 다시는 나를 떠나 헤매지 않고 온갖 죄악으로 자신을 부정하게 만들지 않도록, 그들은 나의 백성이 되게 하고 나는 그들의 하느님이 되려는 것이다. 주 하느님의 말이다.’”

▶ so that the house of Israel may no longer stray from me and may no longer be defiled by all their sins. Thus they shall be my people, and I will be their God, says the Lord GOD.

“사람의 아들아, 어떤 나라가 배신하여 나에게 죄를 지었기 때문에, 내가 손을 뻗어 그 나라의 양식을 끊어 버리고 그 나라에 굶주림을 보내어, 거기에서 사람과 짐승을 잘라 낸다고 하자.

▶ Son of man, when a land sins against me by breaking faith, I stretch out my hand against it and break its staff of bread, I let famine loose upon it and cut off from it both man and beast;

|
비록 그곳에 노아와 다니엘과 욥, 이 세 사람이 있다 하더라도, 그들은 자기들의 의로움으로 제 목숨만 구할 수 있을 따름이다. 주 하느님의 말이다.

▶ and even if these three men were in it, Noah, Daniel, and Job, they could save only themselves by their virtue, says the Lord GOD.

|
또 내가 그 나라에 사나운 짐승들을 돌아다니게 하여, 그것들이 아이들을 앗아 가고, 그 짐승들이 무서워 지나다니는 사람들이 없어서 그 나라가 황무지가 된다고 하자.

▶ If I were to cause wild beasts to prowl the land, depopulating it so that it became a waste, traversed by none because of the wild beasts,

비록 거기에 그 세 사람이 있다 하더라도, 내가 살아 있는 한, 그들은 아들도 딸도 구하지 못할 것이다. 주 하느님의 말이다. 그들은 자신만 구할 수 있을 뿐, 그 나라는 황무지가 될 것이다.

▶ and these three men were in it, as I live, says the Lord GOD, I swear they could save neither sons nor daughters; they alone would be saved, and the land would be a waste.

또 내가 그 나라에 칼을 끌어들인 다음, ‘칼아, 너는 이 나라를 돌아다녀라.’ 하고 명령하여 내가 그곳에서 사람과 짐승을 잘라 낸다고 하자.

▶ Or if I brought the sword upon this country, commanding the sword to pass through the land cutting off from it man and beast,

거기에 그 세 사람이 있다 하더라도, 내가 살아 있는 한, 그들은 아들도 딸도 구하지 못할 것이다. 주 하느님의 말이다. 그들 자신만 구제될 수 있을 따름이다.

또 내가 그 나라에 흑사병을 보내어, 피로써 내 화를 그 나라에 쏟아 사람과 짐승을 잘라 낸다고 하자.

▶ Or if I were to send pestilence into this land, pouring out upon it my bloodthirsty fury, cutting off from it man and beast,

▶ Thus says the Lord GOD: Even though I send Jerusalem my four cruel punishments, the sword, famine, wild beasts, and pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast,

그러나 그 안에 살아남은 자들이 있어서, 아들딸들을 데리고 나올 것이다. 그들이 너희에게로 나온다. 그렇게 되면 너희는 그들이 걸어온 길과 행실을 보고, 내가 예루살렘에 끌어들인 재앙, 곧 내가 그곳에 끌어들인 모든 것에 대하여 위로를 받을 것이다.

▶ still some survivors shall be left in it who will bring out sons and daughters; when they come out to you, you shall see their conduct and their actions and be consoled regarding the evil I have brought on Jerusalem (all that I have brought upon it).

|
너희가 그들이 걸어온 길과 행실을 보게 될 때, 그들이 너희를 위로할 것이다. 그제야 너희는 내가 예루살렘에 한 모든 일이 공연한 것이 아님을 알게 될 것이다. 주 하느님의 말이다.”

▶ They shall console you when you see their conduct and actions, for you shall then know that it was not without reason that I did to it what I did, says the Lord GOD.
