Then Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and said,

"Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They do not wash their hands when they eat a meal."

▶ “어째서 선생님의 제자들은 조상들의 전통을 어깁니까? 그들은 음식을 먹을 때에 손을 씻지 않습니다.”

He said to them in reply, "And why do you break the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition?

▶ 예수님께서 그들에게 대답하셨다. “너희는 또 어째서 너희의 전통 때문에 하느님의 계명을 어기느냐?

|
For God said, 'Honor your father and your mother,' and 'Whoever curses father or mother shall die.'
|

|
▶ 하느님께서는 ‘아버지와 어머니를 공경하여라.’ 그리고 ‘아버지나 어머니를 욕하는 자는 사형을 받아야 한다.’고 이르셨다.

But you say, 'Whoever says to father or mother, "Any support you might have had from me is dedicated to God,"

▶ 그런데 너희는, 누가 아버지나 어머니에게 ‘제가 드릴 공양은 하느님께 바치는 예물이 되었습니다.’ 하고 말하면,

need not honor his father.' You have nullified the word of God for the sake of your tradition.

▶ 아버지를 공경하지 않아도 된다고 한다. 너희는 이렇게 너희의 전통으로 하느님의 말씀을 폐기하는 것이다.

Hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy about you when he said:

▶ 위선자들아, 이사야가 너희를 두고 옳게 예언하였다. 그는 이렇게 말하였다.

'This people honors me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me;

▶ ‘이 백성이 입술로는 나를 공경하지만 그 마음은 내게서 멀리 떠나 있다.
|

|
in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines human precepts.'"

▶ 그들은 사람의 규정을 교리로 가르치며 나를 헛되이 섬긴다.’”

He summoned the crowd and said to them, "Hear and understand.

It is not what enters one's mouth that defiles that person; but what comes out of the mouth is what defiles one."

Then his disciples approached and said to him, "Do you know that the Pharisees took offense when they heard what you said?"

▶ 그때에 제자들이 예수님께 다가와 물었다. “바리사이들이 그 말씀을 듣고 못마땅하게 여기는 것을 아십니까?”

He said in reply, "Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted.

▶ 그러자 예수님께서 대답하셨다. “하늘의 내 아버지께서 심지 않으신 초목은 모두 뽑힐 것이다.

|
Let them alone; they are blind guides of the blind. If a blind person leads a blind person, both will fall into a pit."

Then Peter said to him in reply, "Explain this parable to us."

He said to them, "Are even you still without understanding?

Do you not realize that everything that enters the mouth passes into the stomach and is expelled into the latrine?
|

▶ 입으로 들어가는 것은 무엇이나 배 속으로 갔다가 뒷간으로 나간다는 것을 이해하지 못하느냐?

|
But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile.
|

▶ 그런데 입에서 나오는 것은 마음에서 나오는데 바로 그것이 사람을 더럽힌다.

|
For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, unchastity, theft, false witness, blasphemy.

▶ 마음에서 나쁜 생각들, 살인, 간음, 불륜, 도둑질, 거짓 증언, 중상이 나온다.

|
These are what defile a person, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile."

▶ 이러한 것들이 사람을 더럽힌다. 그러나 손을 씻지 않고 먹는 것은 사람을 더럽히지 않는다.”

Then Jesus went from that place and withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon.

And behold, a Canaanite woman of that district came and called out, "Have pity on me, Lord, Son of David! My daughter is tormented by a demon."

▶ 그런데 그 고장에서 어떤 가나안 부인이 나와, “다윗의 자손이신 주님, 저에게 자비를 베풀어 주십시오. 제 딸이 호되게 마귀가 들렸습니다.” 하고 소리 질렀다.

But he did not say a word in answer to her. His disciples came and asked him, "Send her away, for she keeps calling out after us."

▶ 예수님께서는 한마디도 대답하지 않으셨다. 제자들이 다가와 말하였다. “저 여자를 돌려보내십시오. 우리 뒤에서 소리 지르고 있습니다.”

He said in reply, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel."

But the woman came and did him homage, saying, "Lord, help me."

He said in reply, "It is not right to take the food of the children and throw it to the dogs."

▶ 예수님께서는 “자녀들의 빵을 집어 강아지들에게 던져 주는 것은 좋지 않다.” 하고 말씀하셨다.

She said, "Please, Lord, for even the dogs eat the scraps that fall from the table of their masters."

▶ 그러자 그 여자가 “주님, 그렇습니다. 그러나 강아지들도 주인의 상에서 떨어지는 부스러기는 먹습니다.” 하고 말하였다.

Then Jesus said to her in reply, "O woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish." And her daughter was healed from that hour.

▶ 그때에 예수님께서 그 여자에게 말씀하셨다. “아, 여인아! 네 믿음이 참으로 크구나. 네가 바라는 대로 될 것이다.” 바로 그 시간에 그 여자의 딸이 나았다.

Moving on from there Jesus walked by the Sea of Galilee, went up on the mountain, and sat down there.

Great crowds came to him, having with them the lame, the blind, the deformed, the mute, and many others. They placed them at his feet, and he cured them.
|

▶ 그러자 많은 군중이 다리저는 이들과 눈먼 이들과 다른 불구자들과 말못하는 이들, 그리고 또 다른 많은 이들을 데리고 예수님께 다가왔다. 그들을 그분 발치에 데려다 놓자 예수님께서는 그들을 고쳐 주셨다.

The crowds were amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the deformed made whole, the lame walking, and the blind able to see, and they glorified the God of Israel.

Jesus summoned his disciples and said, "My heart is moved with pity for the crowd, for they have been with me now for three days and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them away hungry, for fear they may collapse on the way."

▶ 예수님께서 제자들을 가까이 불러 이르셨다. “저 군중이 가엾구나. 벌써 사흘 동안이나 내 곁에 머물렀는데 먹을 것이 없으니 말이다. 길에서 쓰러질지도 모르니 그들을 굶겨서 돌려보내고 싶지 않다.”

The disciples said to him, "Where could we ever get enough bread in this deserted place to satisfy such a crowd?"

Jesus said to them, "How many loaves do you have?" "Seven," they replied, "and a few fish."

▶ 예수님께서 “너희에게 빵이 몇 개나 있느냐?” 하시자, 그들이 “일곱 개가 있고 물고기도 조금 있습니다.” 하고 대답하였다.

He ordered the crowd to sit down on the ground.

Then he took the seven loaves and the fish, gave thanks, broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, who in turn gave them to the crowds.

▶ 그리고 빵 일곱 개와 물고기들을 손에 들고 감사를 드리신 다음 떼어 제자들에게 주시니, 제자들이 군중에게 나누어 주었다.

They all ate and were satisfied. They picked up the fragments left over - seven baskets full.

Those who ate were four thousand men, not counting women and children.
