At that time the disciples approached Jesus and said, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?"

▶ 그때에 제자들이 예수님께 다가와, "하늘 나라에서는 누가 가장 큰 사람입니까?" 하고 물었다.

|
He called a child over, placed it in their midst,
|

|
▶ 그러자 예수님께서 어린이 하나를 불러 그들 가운데에 세우시고
|
|

|
and said, "Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.
|

|
▶ 이르셨다. “내가 진실로 너희에게 말한다. 너희가 회개하여 어린이처럼 되지 않으면, 결코 하늘 나라에 들어가지 못한다.
|

|
Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
|

|
▶ 그러므로 누구든지 이 어린이처럼 자신을 낮추는 이가 하늘 나라에서 가장 큰 사람이다.

|
And whoever receives one child such as this in my name receives me.
|

|
▶ 또 누구든지 이런 어린이 하나를 내 이름으로 받아들이면 나를 받아들이는 것이다.”

Temptations to Sin

"Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.

▶ “나를 믿는 이 작은 이들 가운데 하나라도 죄짓게 하는 자는, 연자매를 목에 달고 바다 깊은 곳에 빠지는 편이 낫다.

Woe to the world because of things that cause sin! Such things must come, but woe to the one through whom they come!

▶ 불행하여라, 남을 죄짓게 하는 일이 많은 이 세상! 사실 남을 죄짓게 하는 일은 일어나기 마련이다. 그러나 불행하여라, 남을 죄짓게 하는 일을 하는 사람!

If your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter into life maimed or crippled than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into eternal fire.

And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into fiery Gehenna.

"See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven always look upon the face of my heavenly Father.

▶ “너희는 이 작은 이들 가운데 하나라도 업신여기지 않도록 주의하여라. 내가 너희에게 말한다. 하늘에서 그들의 천사들이 하늘에 계신 내 아버지의 얼굴을 늘 보고 있다.”

What is your opinion? If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them goes astray, will he not leave the ninety-nine in the hills and go in search of the stray?

And if he finds it, amen, I say to you, he rejoices more over it than over the ninety-nine that did not stray.

In just the same way, it is not the will of your heavenly Father that one of these little ones be lost.

A Brother Who Sins
|

"If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have won over your brother.
|

▶ "네 형제가 너에게 죄를 짓거든, 가서 단둘이 만나 그를 타일러라. 그가 네 말을 들으면 네가 그 형제를 얻은 것이다.

If he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, so that 'every fact may be established on the testimony of two or three witnesses.'

▶ 그러나 그가 네 말을 듣지 않거든 한 사람이나 두 사람을 더 데리고 가거라. '모든 일을 둘이나 세 증인의 말로 확정 지어야 하기' 때문이다.

If he refuses to listen to them, tell the church. If he refuses to listen even to the church, then treat him as you would a Gentile or a tax collector.

Amen, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

Again, amen, I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything for which they are to pray, it shall be granted to them by my heavenly Father.

The Parable of the Unforgiving Servant

▶ 형제가 죄를 지으면 몇 번이고 용서하여라

Then Peter approaching asked him, "Lord, if my brother sins against me, how often must I forgive him? As many as seven times?"

|
▶ 그때에 베드로가 예수님께 다가와, “주님, 제 형제가 저에게 죄를 지으면 몇 번이나 용서해 주어야 합니까? 일곱 번까지 해야 합니까?” 하고 물었다.

Jesus answered, "I say to you, not seven times but seventy-seven times.
|

▶ 예수님께서 그에게 대답하셨다. “내가 너에게 말한다. 일곱 번이 아니라 일흔일곱 번까지라도 용서해야 한다.”

That is why the kingdom of heaven may be likened to a king who decided to settle accounts with his servants.

When he began the accounting, a debtor was brought before him who owed him a huge amount.

▶ 임금이 셈을 하기 시작하자 만 탈렌트를 빚진 사람 하나가 끌려왔다.

|
Since he had no way of paying it back, his master ordered him to be sold, along with his wife, his children, and all his property, in payment of the debt.

|
|
▶ 그런데 그가 빚을 갚을 길이 없으므로, 주인은 그 종에게 자신과 아내와 자식과 그 밖에 가진 것을 다 팔아서 갚으라고 명령하였다.

At that, the servant fell down, did him homage, and said, 'Be patient with me, and I will pay you back in full.'
|

▶ 그러자 그 종이 엎드려 절하며, ‘제발 참아 주십시오. 제가 다 갚겠습니다.’ 하고 말하였다.

Moved with compassion the master of that servant let him go and forgave him the loan.
|

|
▶ 그 종의 주인은 가엾은 마음이 들어, 그를 놓아주고 부채도 탕감해 주었다.

|
When that servant had left, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a much smaller amount. He seized him and started to choke him, demanding, 'Pay back what you owe.'
|

▶ 그런데 그 종이 나가서 자기에게 백 데나리온을 빚진 동료 하나를 만났다. 그러자 그를 붙들어 멱살을 잡고 ‘빚진 것을 갚아라.’ 하고 말하였다.

Falling to his knees, his fellow servant begged him, 'Be patient with me, and I will pay you back.'
|

▶ 그의 동료는 엎드려서, ‘제발 참아 주게. 내가 갚겠네.’ 하고 청하였다.

|
But he refused. Instead, he had him put in prison until he paid back the debt.
|

|
▶ 그러나 그는 들어주려고 하지 않았다. 그리고 가서 그 동료가 빚진 것을 다 갚을 때까지 감옥에 가두었다.

|
Now when his fellow servants saw what had happened, they were deeply disturbed, and went to their master and reported the whole affair.
|

▶ 동료들이 그렇게 벌어진 일을 보고 너무 안타까운 나머지, 주인에게 가서 그 일을 죄다 일렀다.

|
His master summoned him and said to him, 'You wicked servant! I forgave you your entire debt because you begged me to.
|

▶ 그러자 주인이 그 종을 불러들여 말하였다. ‘이 악한 종아, 네가 청하기에 나는 너에게 빚을 다 탕감해 주었다.

|
Should you not have had pity on your fellow servant, as I had pity on you?'
|

|
|
▶ 내가 너에게 자비를 베푼 것처럼 너도 네 동료에게 자비를 베풀었어야 하지 않느냐?’
|

Then in anger his master handed him over to the torturers until he should pay back the whole debt.
|

|
▶ 그러고 나서 화가 난 주인은 그를 고문 형리에게 넘겨 빚진 것을 다 갚게 하였다.

|
So will my heavenly Father do to you, unless each of you forgives his brother from his heart."
|

|
|
|
▶ 너희가 저마다 자기 형제를 마음으로부터 용서하지 않으면, 하늘의 내 아버지께서도 너희에게 그와 같이 하실 것이다.”
