They will expel you from the synagogues; in fact, the hour is coming when everyone who kills you will think he is offering worship to God.

▶ 사람들이 너희를 회당에서 내쫓을 것이다. 게다가 너희를 죽이는 자마다 하느님께 봉사한다고 생각할 때가 온다.

They will do this because they have not known either the Father or me.

▶ 그들은 아버지도 나도 알지 못하기 때문에 그러한 짓을 할 것이다.

|
I have told you this so that when their hour comes you may remember that I told you. "I did not tell you this from the beginning, because I was with you.

But now I am going to the one who sent me, and not one of you asks me, 'Where are you going?'

▶ 이제 나는 나를 보내신 분께 간다. 그런데도 ‘어디로 가십니까?’ 하고 묻는 사람이 너희 가운데 아무도 없다.

But because I told you this, grief has filled your hearts.
|

▶ 오히려 내가 이 말을 하였기 때문에 너희 마음에 근심이 가득 찼다.

|
But I tell you the truth, it is better for you that I go. For if I do not go, the Advocate will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.
|

|
|
▶ 그러나 너희에게 진실을 말하는데, 내가 떠나는 것이 너희에게 이롭다. 내가 떠나지 않으면 보호자께서 너희에게 오지 않으신다. 그러나 내가 가면 그분을 너희에게 보내겠다.

And when he comes he will convict the world in regard to sin and righteousness and condemnation:

▶ 보호자께서 오시면 죄와 의로움과 심판에 관한 세상의 그릇된 생각을 밝히실 것이다.

sin, because they do not believe in me;
|

▶ 그들이 죄에 관하여 잘못 생각하는 것은 나를 믿지 않기 때문이고,

|
righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you will no longer see me;
|

|
▶ 그들이 의로움에 관하여 잘못 생각하는 것은 내가 아버지께 가고 너희가 더 이상 나를 보지 못할 것이기 때문이며,

|
condemnation, because the ruler of this world has been condemned. Coming of the Advocate

▶ 그들이 심판에 관하여 잘못 생각하는 것은 이 세상의 우두머리가 이미 심판을 받았기 때문이다.

"I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now.
|

▶ 내가 너희에게 할 말이 아직도 많지만 너희가 지금은 그것을 감당하지 못한다.

But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth. He will not speak on his own, but he will speak what he hears, and will declare to you the things that are coming.

▶ 그러나 그분 곧 진리의 영께서 오시면 너희를 모든 진리 안으로 이끌어 주실 것이다. 그분께서는 스스로 이야기하지 않으시고 들으시는 것만 이야기하시며, 또 앞으로 올 일들을 너희에게 알려 주실 것이다.

He will glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you.

▶ 그분께서 나를 영광스럽게 하실 것이다. 나에게서 받아 너희에게 알려 주실 것이기 때문이다.

Everything that the Father has is mine; for this reason I told you that he will take from what is mine and declare it to you.

▶ 아버지께서 가지고 계신 것은 모두 나의 것이다. 그렇기 때문에 성령께서 나에게서 받아 너희에게 알려 주실 것이라고 내가 말하였다.”

"A little while and you will no longer see me, and again a little while later and you will see me."

▶ “조금 있으면 너희는 나를 더 이상 보지 못할 것이다. 그러나 다시 조금 더 있으면 나를 보게 될 것이다.”

So some of his disciples said to one another, "What does this mean that he is saying to us, 'A little while and you will not see me, and again a little while and you will see me,' and 'Because I am going to the Father'?"

▶ 그러자 제자들 가운데 몇 사람이 서로 말하였다. “‘조금 있으면 너희는 나를 보지 못할 것이다. 그러나 다시 조금 더 있으면 나를 보게 될 것이다.’, 또 ‘내가 아버지께 가기 때문이다.’ 하고 우리에게 말씀하시는데, 그것이 무슨 뜻일까?”

So they said, "What is this 'little while' of which he speaks? We do not know what he means."

▶ 그들은 또 “‘조금 있으면’이라고 말씀하시는데, 그것이 무슨 뜻일까? 무슨 이야기를 하시는지 알 수가 없군.” 하고 말하였다.

Jesus knew that they wanted to ask him, so he said to them, "Are you discussing with one another what I said, 'A little while and you will not see me, and again a little while and you will see me'?

▶ 예수님께서는 제자들이 묻고 싶어 하는 것을 아시고 그들에게 이르셨다. “‘조금 있으면 너희는 나를 보지 못할 것이다. 그러나 다시 조금 더 있으면 나를 보게 될 것이다.’ 하고 내가 말한 것을 가지고 서로 묻고 있느냐?

Amen, amen, I say to you, you will weep and mourn, while the world rejoices; you will grieve, but your grief will become joy.

▶ 내가 진실로 진실로 너희에게 말한다. 너희는 울며 애통해하겠지만 세상은 기뻐할 것이다. 너희가 근심하겠지만, 그러나 너희의 근심은 기쁨으로 바뀔 것이다.

When a woman is in labor, she is in anguish because her hour has arrived; but when she has given birth to a child, she no longer remembers the pain because of her joy that a child has been born into the world.

▶ 해산할 때에 여자는 근심에 싸인다. 진통의 시간이 왔기 때문이다. 그러나 아이를 낳으면, 사람 하나가 이 세상에 태어났다는 기쁨으로 그 고통을 잊어버린다.

So you also are now in anguish. But I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you.

On that day you will not question me about anything. Amen, amen, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you.

Until now you have not asked anything in my name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.

▶ 지금까지 너희는 내 이름으로 아무것도 청하지 않았다. 청하여라. 받을 것이다. 그리하여 너희 기쁨이 충만해질 것이다.”

"I have told you this in figures of speech. The hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures but I will tell you clearly about the Father.
|

▶ “나는 지금까지 너희에게 이런 것들을 비유로 이야기하였다. 그러나 더 이상 너희에게 비유로 이야기하지 않고 아버지에 관하여 드러내 놓고 너희에게 알려 줄 때가 온다.

On that day you will ask in my name, and I do not tell you that I will ask the Father for you.
|

▶ 그날에 너희는 내 이름으로 청할 것이다. 내가 너희를 위하여 아버지께 청하겠다는 말이 아니다.

For the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have come to believe that I came from God.

▶ 바로 아버지께서 너희를 사랑하신다. 너희가 나를 사랑하고 또 내가 하느님에게서 나왔다는 것을 믿었기 때문이다.

I came from the Father and have come into the world. Now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father."

His disciples said, "Now you are talking plainly, and not in any figure of speech.

Now we realize that you know everything and that you do not need to have anyone question you. Because of this we believe that you came from God."

▶ 저희는 스승님께서 모든 것을 아시고, 또 누가 스승님께 물을 필요도 없다는 것을 이제 알았습니다. 이로써 저희는 스승님께서 하느님에게서 나오셨다는 것을 믿습니다.”

Jesus answered them, "Do you believe now?

▶ 예수님께서 그들에게 대답하셨다. “이제는 너희가 믿느냐?

Behold, the hour is coming and has arrived when each of you will be scattered to his own home and you will leave me alone. But I am not alone, because the Father is with me.

|
|
▶ 그러나 너희가 나를 혼자 버려두고 저마다 제 갈 곳으로 흩어질 때가 온다. 아니, 이미 왔다. 그러나 나는 혼자가 아니다. 아버지께서 나와 함께 계시다.

I have told you this so that you might have peace in me. In the world you will have trouble, but take courage, I have conquered the world."
